When a client approached designer Sarah Stacey about a kitchen renovation last yr, she didn’t let pandemic slowdowns stand in the way of turning a drab kitchen area into a superior-drama aspiration house for her clients. The designer, like quite a few of us for the duration of the pandemic, relayed heavily on Zoom to touch bases with her client and flash out this big-scale renovation.

“I used Zoom to current my ideas, inspiration images, 3D renderings, and finalize cabinet elevations,” Stacey tells Household Beautiful. “We also FaceTimed in the course of design, which resulted in minimal web-site meetings.” Stacey constrained the in-individual selections, in the meantime, to the most higher impact kinds: products choice and paint colours.

Stacey describes that the customer was eager on extraordinary accents accents, so she centered her initiatives on applying contrasting elements and tones in the course of the kitchen area. “I made a decision to flank that overall wall in paneling for a better-conclude search,” she suggests of the a single black-painted wall—which belies a intelligent trick: “A good deal of it is fake,” she confesses of the panels, “but I determined to go with black on that complete wall for drama.” In between that glossy black wall and the remarkable black marbled island, Stacey right away elevated the space from its preceding iteration (goodbye, beige laminate!).

But the place is sensible, much too: The designer opted for a leathered complete for the black marbled topping of the island to aid disguise fingerprints and smudges.

All that drama is well balanced with the heat of a vintage rug and natural factors courtesy of the floors and cabinetry, which are swathed in textural, natural wooden. At initially, Stacey prepared to paint the cabinetry in the remaining 3 partitions and island white, but she opted for the mid-tone oak to help to mellow some of the higher contrast.

The counter stools, with their black body, neutral backs and cushions, are the bridge involving the two. “I loved these for the reason that they experienced the organic component of the cane and the black frame, which worked completely with the shade scheme of the kitchen,” the designer explains (as well as, they are price range-welcoming: She sourced them from Target!).

To preserve this dichotomy from emotion too excessive, however, Stacey incorporated touches of metallic through: The blended-steel hood attracts the eye upward, as do the fluted pendant lights, which Stacey describes as “cute and sophisticated.” A lot like the kitchen as a full, it is the perfect harmony.
